Timeline of my Kincaid Line

This will be changing as I add information…

My Kincaid Lineage

I decided to go ahead and put my Kincaid lineage in some type of printed format. It is far from finished and as you can see the further you go back the harder it is to document. I have a number of deeds I need to pull that will hopefully help me confirm the connections from William M. to earlier. I hope to do this to my other lines as time allows and that this will be of help to the rest of you.

Wilderness Lumber Company

In “The Story of Mt. Lookout” by Carrie Jo Huffman, she states that the 43,000 acres to the North of Meadow River was a mighty forest of giant poplars, great red oaks, white oaks, chestnut, walnut, and cherry. From the pictures I have here of the Wilderness Lumber Company I can certainly believe that.

The Wilderness Lumber Company was located in Nallen, WV. As a kid I can remember driving through Nallen and seeing the remnants of the mill. It was amazing for me to find out that it used to be the largest hardwood operation in the WORLD. In 1927 they even supplied the lumber and other timber that the U.S. Navy used to restore the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides”.

Look at the size of that log they are sitting on!!

I really don’t know the names of anyone in these photos other than my grandfather. Judging by the size of those trees, I think it’s a safe bet to say that they were real men. I can’t even imagine how difficult it must have been. As you can see NO power equipment.

Here are a few links to old newspaper articles that I found regarding Wilderness Lumber Company

The Morgantown Post / July 21,1961
Beckley Post-Herald / June 8,1972
Beckley Post-Herald / January 2,1973
The Raleigh Register / June 29,1977

If you have any information regarding Wilderness Lumber Company or these photos I would love to hear it.

Pure and Simple Joy

Emory, Alice and Brenda Kincaid

I am hoping to be able to spend more time in sharing some of the information and pictures that I have. I am going to start with a couple of pictures that I came across recently of my parents and my sister Brenda. Judging from the age of Sis I believe these photos were taken in 1950. The second photo below is Brenda with my Uncle Eugene and Aunt Mary Kincaid.

Now the reason I chose these photos. JOY. Can you see the pure joy on the faces of my Mom and Dad? I have seen many photos of them and have never seen another that captures the happiness in their faces as much as this one.

I plan to get this one framed and placed it where I will see it often. Life too often gets in the way of our happiness with the day to day pressures we all have on us. I hope this photo will help me keep things in perspective. I certainly hope that you enjoy this photo as much as I do.

Oh and Sis, I can’t help but be a little jealous!

Alice Lee (Legg) Kincaid July 29, 1931 – June 13, 2012

My mother passed away in the early hours of June 13, 2012. I have been meaning on posting something about her, but it is very hard to put anything in writing. For me it has been difficult to come to the realization that your parents have passed on. I really like this photo of her that I found and thought you might also.

Stuff you find…

I have been going through Ronnie’s research and pictures a little at a time and has really been an arduous task. It has really been a lot of work and it seems like I’m getting nowhere fast. Now I’m not trying to gain any sympathy, every now and then I run across something that gives me a little chuckle like this photo and makes it worthwhile.

This photo is classic. The photo has “Cole Girls” written on the back. Other than that I really know nothing. I assume it is from Mt. Lookout, but that’s only a guess. These ladies look liked they just stepped out of the saloon to me. I hope I’m not insulting anyone.

If you have any information regarding this photo, please let me know.

Lots of Work to do…

I just returned from Thanksgiving with my family and have returned with multiple boxes of information that Ronnie had collected. I have plans of getting all of this converted to digital form and have it posted in the near future. There is a large box with nothing but photos. I will probably start with those and hope that I can find some help with identification. I will be uploading these photos to My Mt Lookout Heritage facebook group and the new My Mt Lookout Heritage Google+ page.

For those of you who have never used Google+, I would like to encourage you to try. Why? I really feel it has a better interface and I have much more control over my security. Facebook just leaves me a little flat. But, I will post the pictures to both locations since facebook has a very large following. I hope you enjoy the Photos!

Kincaids in Paris, France !

image

I have heard my Dad talk about this. Unfortunately I really don’t remember to much of the story. My Dad (Emory) was in Paris during WW II waiting to be sent elsewhere. He somehow found out that his brother Emil was there by coincidence.  My Dad is on the right and Uncle Emil on the left.

Ramsey Family History

There are few people that grew up in Mt. Lookout who in some way or another are not related to Bartholomew Ramsey. This was put in print in 1933 and was compiled by J.C. Ramsey. I have read a little of this and found some good information about several of my ancestors such as Elizabeth “Letty” Ramsey Legg and William Legg. I hope you will find this interesting.

Legg Archives

I am really unsure where these documents originated. You will see that it starts out with a will for Thomas Legg dated 1808. There are several pedigree charts and handwritten notes throughout. I did find a small error referring to my father as Emory George Kincaid. His middle name was Garfield. This might explain some of the errors I have found lately with other pedigree charts showing up with the middle name incorrect.
